Artist Jessica C. White is the winner of the Downtown Presbyterian Church's 2010 "Anti-depressant" D.I.G. show purchase prize.
White was announced the winner Saturday, March 6, during the opening reception and monthly Art-Luck event at DPC. The church will purchase her 2 works, one of which is pictured here entitled "No, it's not hellfire. It's just a regular fire." The works will remain in the church's permanent collection and White will be presented with a purchase prize check of $1,000 from the church.
A bit about our show: “D.I.G.” means Dialogue: an Interaction for Growth. This year’s theme is "Anti-depressant." The D.I.G. show began at DPC in 1998 as an extension of the church’s artists-in-residency program. These shows have explored different themes each year. Previous themes have included last year’s “Embodiment,” and also “Icons and Idols,” “Incarnation and Risk,” and “Human Sacrifice.” DPC feels that lent, the church season of 40 days (not including feast days) before Easter, is an appropriate season to invite artists to join the church in wrestling with challenges and complexities of faith.
This was a good choice, and one of the most thought provoking pieces in the whole show. Good Choice!
